Today’s New Moon, arriving at 7:12 PM UTC, falls at 26 degrees 35 minutes of Libra, the sign of the diplomat, the negotiator, the mediator, but also of the endless, graceful yet conflicted dance between opposites that sparks growth, births life, sets the Universe in motion.
New Moons are cosmic doorways to fresh starts; they allow us to shed old skin, and break ground for new cycles. Under a Libra New Moon, it’s the promise of a newfound harmony, both within ourselves and in our surroundings, that appeals the most to us. Bridging the gaps. Cherishing our allies, making peace with the Other around and within us.
And yet, with the New Moon occuring in opposition with cosmic agitator, Uranus, the path towards balance might be more twisted and tortuous than we expect, pushing us out of our comfort zone in ways that are difficult to predict, urging us to reconcile with ourselves through the radical encounter with an outlandish, undecipherable otherness.

Venus enters Libra, October 14, 2017 – Harmony One

Traditionally, ‘I balance’ is Libra’s motto. However, it’s also not unusual to stumble upon descriptions of Libra as the sign with the “iron fist in a velvet glove”, and many find it incredible to associate such statement to the pop-culture depiction of Libra as the shallow, appearance-oriented peacemaker of the Zodiac.
The metaphor starts to make sense once we cast the popular stereotypes aside, to focus on the true purpose and lesson that lies at the core of Libra; “I balance” suggests that Libran energy is a direct emissary of the Universe’s Law of Compensation. The Universe is a constantly balancing act between interlocking opposites, and yet, balance can’t be completely removed from strife, contrast, unfairness. Balance is processual, and Libra knows that – the very notion implies that there must be something to be harmonized, rectified, integrated. Libra’s tightrope walk between darkness and light can still be gracious and infused with aesthetic sense, but the determination, skills and strength behind such acrobatic performance are not to be underestimated. There is a reason why Saturn is exalted in Libra, and Aries is Libra’s opposite signs (opposites complement each other, as two ends of the same spectrum who can be integrated into a greater, more functional whole).

Humans are seekers by nature, and our unquenchable thirst for exploration has been historically constant and enduring – to both beneficial and catastrophic results.
I come from a lineage of explorers, myself.  My ancestors, whom I (almost) routinely worship on my altar, were sailors; many times throughout my life, I have keenly sensed their legacy of unrest, boldness and intrepidity propelling me forward. Most importantly, I feel as though I have somehow inherited their sense of Faith, without which no kind of exploration is ever possible.

Full Moon in Aries, October 5, 2017 – Fire

The spiritual experience is complex, multi-faceted and unique. Identifying as “spiritual” doesn’t necessarily have to mandatorily coincide with a constant, uni-dimensional state of equanimity, imperturbability, or even neutrality. To advocate this stance would imply that we should erase, and therefore repress, the manifold intersections between our human existence and our metaphysical vocation.
Passion is spiritual. Sex drive is spiritual. Indignation in the face of social injustice is spiritual. Anger too can be a spiritual fuel, to some degree, as long as we know how and where to channel it for a higher purpose. In short, there is nothing un-spiritual about our primal, animal nature. Fire is no less spiritual than the other three elements. Every fiery, supposedly negative emotion is, at the very least, a signpost, a messenger that exposes vital, profound truths about the Self.

Pluto stations Direct, September 29, 2017 – Resplendent Grotesque

Not everything that surrounds Pluto is sexy, glamorous, intriguing.
While sex, jealousy and transformation are some important facets of this planetary archetype, the association between Pluto and taboo is deep and complex, and it leads us straight into an underworld that hosts the least acceptable, least pleasant aspects of human experience.
The Plutonian kingdom is as exciting and seducing as it’s morbid and gruesome. The human urge to experience pleasure and Soul-level fulfillment through coitus coexists with the awareness of the impermanence of all worldly things, and of the mortality of our bodily vessels. In Pluto’s realm, sex and decay are not mutually exclusive; they are sides of the same coin. They are also more than “just” spritual experiences, as the Plutonian experience of both things involves the physical, factual encounter with flesh, fluids, organic processes – the roughest, most unrefined, primal elements of our physical dimension in all their coarse, innate realness. Pluto doesn’t spare us the graphic details, the grotesque features, the grim, hideous particulars. They are what sex, death and renewal are made of – especially the latter.
