Full Moon in Leo, January 24th, 2016 – Open the Light

In spite of Leo’s traditional association with the stage, the intricate context that surround the Full Moon on January 24 (01:46 AM UTC, 5:46 PM PST, or 8:46 PM ET the day before), at 3 degrees 29 minutes, suggests that whatever goes on behind the scenes is going to be just as important as the main attraction.
There’s an undeniable, captivating naïveté about the warmth and playfulness of Leo, a sign that’s often ascribed rulership of all things fun and entertaining. Ruled by the Sun, principle of consciousness, and lording over the physical heart of the body, Leo is associated with the Self and the Ego. The best channel for the Leo self-expression is creativity, either from a biological or artistic viewpoint: Leo rules children, but also performance art, acting and dance. If we also consider that a Full Moon represents an energetic peak, which shines a powerful light on whatever is coming full-circle in our Life, highlighting culminations, realizations, manifestations in the world of five senses – much like a cosmic spotlight, we get the ideal showtime scenario that stimulates people to pursue self-actualization and full on self-expression… or throw temper tantrums.
This Full Moon will have us wired on the confidence-boosting energy of Leo: we might feel compelled to step out and voice the individual wants, needs and feelings that have been building up for a long time, shine our Light and demand the recognition we think we deserve. The temptation to make bold and daring moves, share our hearts, express our generosity and self-love will almost certainly surge through our veins with the impulsivity and vigor that are such a prominent feature of Fire signs.
However, with the Moon in a broad square to Scorpio Mars, Venus in rigid Capricorn, retrograde Mercury in an exact conjunction with Pluto triggering the Uranus/Pluto square, and Black Moon Lilith in Libra turning it into a T-Square, there might be a subliminal current of seriousness and restraint underpinning the boastful glow of the Leo vibe. While I don’t think that these aspects will dramatically derail the overall theme and energy of this Full Moon, I’m persuaded that the shimmering Leo theatricals will have to contend with the shadow in some form or shape. Perhaps, something will be uncomfortably forced into the spotlight; we might get confronted with Leo-related issues around self-importance, pride, narcissism and display or discover the cracks, flaws and distortion in our self-image. In short, there are obvious red flags that we should not ignore, as much as we’d like to get carried away with the Leonine enjoyment and joie de vivre.
The square to Mars in Scorpio can point to a tendency to overdo it and make a show of strength to prove our points, digging our heels in and becoming pushy and overbearing; occult actions and hidden motivations might somehow clash against Leo’s enthusiastic transparency and crystalline optimism. But when the cosmic lights of the Leo Full Moon are on, our Ego and reputation are on the line; we are on the stage, playing our role, whether we realize it or not. The presence of Mercury in the Uranus/Pluto/Black Moon Lilith T-Square is a clear reminder of this, and it especially urges us to be wise and commonsensical with verbal self-expression: our words will leave their mark, and, once uttered, they cannot be taken back.
The extent to which this might turn into a recipe for disaster is determined by our willingness (or lack thereof) to set our Ego and entitlement aside and keep them from dictating our actions and reactions. Issues might arise if we use concepts like “honour”, “pride” and the likes as defenses to shield our sensitive inner child; as long as we stay open and allow our blind spots and our shadow sides to emerge, sharing our Love and radiance in spite of them, we can only shine brighter than ever before.
Those with personal planets, angles or nodes between 0 and 5 of Fixed (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) or Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) signs will feel this Full Moon most strongly.

    • I hear you loud and clear, Angel. I’m honestly glad we’re leaving this last Mercury Rx behind. My next post is going to be about the Virgo Full Moon in February, so we’ll see 🙂
