“How do I know if I passed or failed Saturn return’s test?”
Sami

Dear Sami,
first, I think it might help not to see Saturn as some external entity that exerts its authority over you. Everything that you see in your chart, represents an integral part of your psyche, of your inner microcosmos. Saturn is your sense of duty, your self-restraint, your self-discipline. Which means that the most qualified individual to determine whether or not you have failed your Saturn Return is not Saturn himself, or an Astrologer – rather, it’s you.
You’ve been living with yourself since your birth. You know about your limitations, fear and duties, because, chances are, you had the chance to become aware of them throughout the first 29/30 years of your life prior to your first Saturn Return. And you know what you did about them, and whether or not your actions matched your inner knowing.
Now, your natal Saturn is in your second house, in Scorpio, which means, in broad terms, that your Saturn Return (which occurred in early 2014) involved resources, values, self-esteem, material comforts, securing stability, becoming grounded, handling your finances responsibly. So, you could reformulate your question like this: did I do my best when it comes to tackling all of my 2nd house-related issues? Did I act like a grown up in regards to my lifelong struggle with the realm of the 2nd house without resorting to manipulation, avoidance, coercion? Did I do what I knew was the right thing to do at the time?
If the answer to these questions is ‘yes’, then you know your Saturn Return was a successful one.

Tell us about your Saturn Return and how you knew you succeeded.

  • Nice one, aeterna! Saturn is transiting my ascendant right now and my return will be in Capricorn. I felt I developed a lot of self confidence during this transit, even thou it wasn’t easy, specially during the Mars retrograde period this year. I have a question, the “testing” period will be only while Saturn is conjunct the first house cuspid or during whole period it transits Sagittarius? In the same fashion, the Saturn return will only happens while it conjucts my natal Saturn or through the whole period it transits Capricorn?

    • Thanks, Pedro! 🙂 The thing about Saturn entering the sign of its natal placement is that you start to sense the themes and patterns you’ll have to deal with, pretty much right away, you recognize that energy. As transiting Saturn draws close to the spot it occupies in your chart, things start to manifest more intensely – it’s like when a transiting planet crosses a body/point in your chart, except that in the case of Saturn Return, you could start to feel it much earlier, even 10-12 degrees ahead. Which is kind of typical when it comes to Saturn transits in general. But then again, you also have to look at the context of the whole chart as depending on the strength/weakness of your Saturn you might experience this differently.

  • How about transiting Saturn conjunct natal Uranus? Did you experience it?

    • Chaitu, I have it natally. 🙂 So I’m about to experience it by transit in a few weeks. Seeing how life is unfolding for me right now, I expect it to be all about achieving the personal freedom I’ve always yearned for, through commitment (to my 6th House sector).

  • Hmm my return will happen in December but looking at the tables, it will cross the same point twice next year. Seems Saturn is not content to give me a one off lesson.?

    • Haha, typical Saturn, always making sure you get the memo. But consider that this is what slower planets do – they tend to cross the same spot a couple times, most of the time. Pluto is way slower than Saturn and my Pluto to Sun transit will happen four times. Similarly, a Saturn return can have multiple peaks, definitely not as much as a Pluto transit, but 2 is somewhat of an average occurrence.

  • My return was also the recent Saturn in Scorpio. But I have a questioning regarding retrograde planets. How does it affect you if your natal Saturn is retrograde? Almost all of my planets are retrograde in my natal chart. Thank you!
